TRACTOR FRONT TYRE WEAR Is the one-tonne front weight block the total answer to tractor ballast?

This issue of Farm Ideas has a home made alternative. Leaf weights hang on an extendable frame. Push it out for more ballast. The unit is mounted on strong side frames that go from bolster to back side of the bell-housing.

DISCOVERY MODIFICATIONS Early Land Rover Discoveries convert to astoundingly good farm and field machines. "They're Defenders with a car body" is what Clint says. He's done numerous conversions, and shows farmers how do it for themselves.

SUPER-SUCKLERS Our 'Farm Walk' contributor's 2014 crop of bull calves from 100 sucklers averaged 1kg/day carcass weight, killed out at 63% and got finished at 400 days with a 400kg carcass grading U and E. It's quite an achievement. He explains their methods.

Pages from this issue

Ingenious workshop projects which often show the way ahead as well as saving time and money today

This important section is now thefocus of attention. These pages add to the 60 already published in previous issues. We report on a presentation given by the US soil guru Gabe Brown to farmers in Manitoba - still of real relevance to those in the Midlands of England or the Marches of Wales.

This contractor explains the service they provide and their thinking when choosing new equipment. Needless to say they make some kit and there are ingenious ideas - a front weight frame that carries a plough press and weights, for example.
